This volume is an attempt to bring to the forefront various challenges faced by a social work educator and a practitioner while teaching or practicing social work. It contains fourteen chapters and each one of them make us realize the key issues and critical challenges that stand in the way of relevant and responsible social work education being imparted in our country. The papers have debated and discussed the issues which need to be addressed immediately so that the profession of social work can prove it’s usefulness and credibility. The articles hope to develop standards of social work education and bring about qualitative improvements in the present scenario. The book aims to let the readers introspect the current realities, face the coming challenges and opportunities and reaffirm our faith in the intrinsic worth of the profession.

Banshi Dhar Pandey Associate Professor, Department of Social Work, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi holds M.S.W and Ph.D degrees. He has been on the faculty for about two decades. He is the recipient of ‘Rajyapal Puraskar’ for voter awareness programme (SVEEP). He has authored two books and has produced 11 Ph.D’s. He has published about 50 articles/research papers in reputed journals. He has held a number of important administrative positions such as Programme Co-ordinator, National Service Scheme, Proctor, Assistant Dean – Student’s Welfare. He is at present serving as Chief, University Employment and Guidance Bureau. He has been a member of various professional Organizations and Associations. He is well known for his contributions in the field of Family and Child Welfare. He is presently engaged in writings on issues of social justice, child rights etc.

Nimisha Gupta is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith, Varanasi. Before taking up teaching as her career, she qualified State Public Service Commission exam and served as a Child Development Project Officer in ICDS for three years. She is the recipient of ‘Vivekanand Award’ for the best Programme Officer of the University. She is a member of various professional associations and organizations. She has authored two books on human behaviour and development. She has published fifty articles in the established journals. Her area of specialization is Family and Child Welfare and is keenly interested in working on women issues.
